Cycle tour to Meißen
From the hotel door along the Elbe Cycle Route to the cradle of Saxony — past a reservoir, porcelain and the Albrechtsburg.
A tour almost entirely along the water — the Elbe Cycle Route takes you downstream directly from the hotel to Meißen, the thousand-year-old cradle of Saxony.
Stops along the way
Seven stopping points from the old town side of Dresden up to the castle hill of Meißen.

Hotel Am Terrassenufer
The Elbe Cycle Route begins right outside the hotel door. At first you stay on the old town side, rolling downstream along the Dresden skyline.

ICCD — International Congress Center Dresden
Striking glass architecture on the bank of the Elbe
You pass the International Congress Center Dresden. The terraced building opened in 2004; its curved glass façade deliberately echoes the course of the Elbe. Just beyond it you continue under the Marienbrücke bridge, with a stretch away from the river ahead of you as far as the district of Cotta.

Niederwartha reservoir
A cool dip at the western city limits
About halfway along, the reservoir invites you to take a break. The Stauseebad Cossebaude lido has a spacious lawn lined with chestnut trees — ideal for cooling off on warm days.
Tip: the open-air swimming season runs from late May to early September.

Meissen Porcelain Foundation
“White gold” at close quarters
Within the town you follow the signs to the manufactory. The museum of the Meissen Porcelain Foundation — built in 1916 as a neoclassical assembly hall — presents a collection spanning more than 300 years of history at Europe's oldest porcelain manufactory.

Meißen Cathedral & Albrechtsburg
The ensemble on the castle hill
The castle hill towers above the old town. The Albrechtsburg is regarded as the “cradle of Saxony” and was extended from 1471 into Germany's first palace. Right beside it rises Meißen Cathedral, one of the purest examples of German Gothic church architecture.

A drink with a view of the Elbe
A break right by the river
There are several cafés and restaurants right on the cathedral square — and from up here you have a wonderful view over the old town and the Elbe.

Market square & Meißen old town
One of the finest market squares in Saxony
With its town hall, the Frauenkirche and stately merchants' houses, the market square forms the heart of the old town. Cobbled lanes and romantic courtyards tell of more than a thousand years of town history.
Tip: the tower of the Frauenkirche holds the world's first carillon made of Meissen porcelain

View of the Albrechtsburg
Crossing the Elbe valley bridge, you take a last look back at the Albrechtsburg and the cathedral — the finest postcard view of the tour. After that it is a leisurely ride back towards Dresden along the Elbe Cycle Route on the right bank.
